Meeting the Real Hulk
Being such a Hulk fan, I was thrilled and very fortunate to meet Lou Ferrigno, the Real Hulk, twice. Let me share those two incredible experiences with you, here, in this web page.
1) At One of LA's Gold's Gym
1992. I met Lou Ferrigno in August 1992 at a Gold's Gym in LA, California. I was vacationing in LA and Lou was training at that gym to compete in the Mr.Olympia contest, the most important in bodybuilding. I found out that Lou was training there from an article in the Muscle & Fitness magazine.
Lou was around 40 years old, but he looked like 30.
He was HUGE.
He truely was Incredible.
I watched Lou as he did seated rows (for lats), and then, seated calf raises.
I had never seen a bodybuilder as big as him in my life.
While he was resting, I got the chance to talk to his bodybuilder buddy.
I told the buddy to tell Lou that I was a tourist from Argentina, admired him, and wished him the best for the competition.
The buddy talked to Lou, who looked at me, and started telling me how he enjoyed his one visit to my country. At the end, I wished Lou the best for his upcoming competition, and told him he was incredible. We shook hands goodbye.
That's when I realized how BIG he really was!
My hand looked like a baby's hand compared to his!
I left the gym very, very, very happy.
How many times can someone meet the incredible Hulk in person?
Thanks again Lou for letting me talk to you in the middle of your workout.
2) At A Comic Book Convention
2002. How many other chances would have I gotten, living in the other side of the world, to meet the Incredible Hulk in person again?
None so it seemed...
Well, life smiles back more than once sometimes.
In the year 2000, my wife and I moved to the US.
During my 2002 summer vacation, I visited the Dragon Con 2002 convention in Atlanta.
And Lou Ferrigno was one of the guests!
Wow!
I couldn't believe it!
Lou was about 50 years old.
But he looked the same as ten years ago!
This time I wasn't interrupting any work-out, I was just waiting in line to meet the Hulk, once again.
When it was my turn, I told Lou that I met him before at a Gold's Gym (though of course I expected him not to remember), that it was nice to see him again, and told him several compliments.
I purchased one of the pictures he had on the table, as the TV Hulk.
He signed the photograph for me, and allowed me to take a picture with him (shown here).
Finally, I wanted to let him know how I felt about him, so I wrote on a piece of paper the following message and gave it to him:
"Lou, your career has been awesome, you are incredible!"
He thanked me for the compliments, we shook hands, and I said bye once again to the Hulk.
The others waiting in line now had the chance to meet Lou.
And I left with a "birthday" smile on my face that probably stayed for the following two hours.
Training with the Hulk
In March of 2005, Cesar Neuman and his cousin Edgar Murua fullfilled a Hulk fan's dream: They trained with the Real Hulk, Lou Ferrigno! Cesar sent these pics of the event. They trained at Lou's gym (located in Lou's house.) Cesar's impression of Lou was: He's a humble man. Regarding the sport of bodybuilding, Lou was a real inspiration to both of them, and they continue training to this day.
